Green’s the New Black

The green movement is transcending into our wardrobes with natural and sustainable fibers, hence a crop of Michigan companies promoting a more environmentally conscious lifestyle.

Rooted to Nature (R2N), located in Williamsburg, MI., and just 20 minutes from Traverse City carries clothing made of natural and sustainable fibers from around the world. Nick Cassell an employee at R2N, says they specialize in clothing made for the outdoor enthusiast. A few of the lines they carry are geared towards the yoga, climbing, biking and hiking crowd, says Nick… “Some of our active wear contains fibers such as hemp wool, silk, soy and others.” Rooted to Nature also carries casual clothing “the natural fibers many times will hold up longer and better then man made materials, they feel much nicer next to your skin and they’re environmentally more sound,” says Nick.

Stores that offer eco-friendly fashions and companies that produce them are sprouting up all over Michigan, from Maggie’s in Ypsilanti, www.organicclothing.com to Finn Biskit in Dollar Bay, www.finnbiskit.com, they’re quickly changing the face of Michigan’s fashion front making green the new black.
