Michigan Arts and Culture Unparalleled

Homegrown, world-class, diverse and authentic. The real deal! That’s Michigan’s arts and cultural scene in a sound bite. I challenge anyone to find another state in the union with more diverse forms of creative self-expression than our beautiful and unique Michigan.
And you can find this creative expression not only in the large urban centers of Detroit and Grand Rapids boasting world-class cultural institutions like The Detroit Institute of Arts or the Grand Rapids Ballet, but in suburban, rural and even wilderness settings.
There are places all over Michigan where you can find public art, see an incredible range of artists and artisans at work, experience every type of music imaginable, take part in festivals and events of all kinds, stroll interesting historic sites and explore museums that bring Michigan’s colorful history to life. That doesn’t even begin to speak to the exciting arts and cultural scene being fed by Michigan creatives through the online world and venues like YouTube.
This issue of MLMT begins to scratch the surface by tasting a few of Michigan’s many exciting arts and cultural experiences — enjoying public art in a wide range of urban and rural settings, visiting enclaves of artist entrepreneurs at work turning their art into unique products, seeing art fabricated from found materials, and spending an evening gallery and studio hopping in Michigan towns across the state. Get out, experience and help create a buzz.
When you add Michigan’s arts and cultural scene to the woods and water we’ve touted forever, you have a quality of life that is truly Michigan’s competitive edge.
