Southeast Michigan Cities Approaching Seasonal Snowfall Records

If you’re starting to feel like we’ve had an unusually large amount of snow this winter, you’re right on the money. In fact, many residents of Southeast Michigan haven’t just experienced a little more snow than normal this year — they’ve experienced a lot more.
As the daughter of a public school teacher, I’ve been keeping an unofficial tally of the number of snow days my teacher-mother has had this year. As of today, she’s had a total of 5 snow days this season, a number she can’t remember reaching in more than 30 years on the job.
On the more technical side, this story says that the city of Ann Arbor has received 76.9 inches of snow this year; much more than the 52.9 inch-average for the area. The only time there has been more snow in Ann Arbor than this season was in 2004-2005, when 83.9 inches of the white stuff fell.
Snow totals for other area regions include:
- Flint: 76.1 inches. As of March 3, this makes this season the fourth-snowiest season on record.
- Saginaw: 78.5 inches. As of March 3, this makes this season the third-snowiest season on record.
If you’re a skier, snowboarder or snowmobile-enthusiast, you’re loving the extra snow this season and don’t care if it ever stops. On the other hand, if you’ve had enough winter weather for one year, keep reminding yourself that spring is (hopefully) right around the corner.
