Urban gardenHere’s a round-up of the state’s latest green news.

Doug Rothwell of Detroit Renaissance and Richard E. Blouse of the Detroit Regional Chamber collaborated to write a guest editorial in yesterday’s Detroit Free Press. “Going green can help new jobs” explains why the new movement is “more than just a fad or public relations gimmick.” With the region’s deep history of research and development, a wealth of talent is “ready and willing to create the next generation of clean energy.”

In “Detroit Urban Gardeners get early start,” The Michigan Citizen discusses seed distribution events providing metro Detroit residents with “all the resources and education needed … to produce organic, locally grown food.” Last week, gardeners were given a variety of vegetables and flowers to create their own city harvests.

Finally, the Michigan Association of Home Builders has announced their Great Lakes Green Conference and Exhibition to generate greater awareness of residential green building and technologies. The inaugural event will take place August 21-23 at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids with more than 100 exhibitors discussing green products and services.
