Michigan vs. Hollywood

Could Michigan become the next Hollywood — or at least start competing with tinsel town? New legislation may help bring additional talent to the state. And as Michigan continues to grow as a great place to live and work, it may soon develop as a premier location for the entertainment industry.
The State of Michigan has just announced the best film tax rebate credit program in the nation which Michigan Film Production has helped with in order to bring Film & Television projects to our great state.
This yields the highest production tax incentive in the nation. 40% Film Tax Rebate - 42% in 103 cities. Additional Michigan Film Incentives include infrastructure & digital filmmaking funds and production company loans.
Full details of the Incentive Package proposed are posted here.
“This is an incredible way to show the world all that Michigan’s diverse landscape has to offer,” said Huizenga (R-Zeeland). “We have a rich history in the creative arts, and I believe we will continue that tradition with this aggressive incentive.”
Lawmakers, though, think Michigan will benefit by becoming home to more films, commercials, TV shows and documentaries since production costs include workers, supplies, lodging, food and other services. Granholm is expected to sign the legislation by April 9.
Sixty scripts have been submitted for review in less than a month since it became clear the proposal will become law, said Janet Lockwood, director of the state’s film office.
