University of Michigan to Offer Free Lectures in iTunes

The University of Michigan has teamed up with Apple to offer “a heavy dose of educational content such as classroom lectures, debates and study material” through the popular iTunes service.
40 other colleges and universities are already participating in what is known as iTunes U. Michigan Tech has been a participant since last summer, posting a selection of engineering lectures.
The Detroit Free Press first questions if educational material is actually being downloaded. But Stanford University reports 1.8 million dollars since joining the program in 2006.
Materials added by the university will include “lectures from a Saturday morning physics class, teaching material from dental courses, university news releases, even a complete archive of speeches by U-M President Mary Sue Coleman.”
And unlike the pop hits and movie rentals, iTunes will provide all U-M audio and video at no charge.
