The first winner of The Pulice Report’s “Arresting Site of the Month” has now been announced. We made a brief mention back in November, but it’s good to see the continued efforts of Michigan Innovators taking home the inaugural award.
A spotlight of newsmakers and issues that impact Michigan, The Pulice Report wants to help exceptional online destinations generate publicity and increase traffic. As you may remember, the University of Michigan has joined Google in its quest to scan the world’s every book. A daunting task, for sure. But this Salon article (via the AP) details the “dimly lit back room on the second level of the University of Michigan library’s book-shelving department” where the most fragile of books are being processed.
600 pages are scanned manually, then added to Google’s Book Search portal. The site will eventually house, the company hopes, each of the estimated 50 to 100 million books in the world. [ Read more ]
Clint Eastwood’s next film may choose Michigan as its home. The Detroit Free Press is reporting of “signs that the 78-year-old actor-director will bring the highest-profile movie production to the state” following the tax incentive program signed by the governor earlier this month.
Eastwood will both direct and star in “Gran Torino,” set for release in December. A Minnesota TV station announced the preference for Michigan due to its 42% tax credit. An Eastwood cameraman has also mentioned a July trip to begin shooting. [ Read more ]
With half of all items a product of Michigan, The Cherry Blossom Boutique will open in Port Huron on June 21.
The store will sell “specialty and gift items such as books, handbags, jewelry, baby items, hand-painted stemware and handmade greeting cards.” About 90% of all items will be handmade, with 50% finding their roots locally and a large selection eco-friendly. [ Read more ]
Ann Arbor electronic music label Ghostly International has teamed up with Cartoon Network’s late night Adult Swim “for a compilation of music, sights and sounds.”
“Ghostly Swim” features 19 songs from the “Ghostly International galaxy,” with artists Matthew Dear, Dabrye, The Chap and others. And, as part of the arrangement, mascots BoyCatBird make their animated debut in a video featuring music from the compilation.

The University of Michigan has teamed up with Apple to offer “a heavy dose of educational content such as classroom lectures, debates and study material” through the popular iTunes service.
